Google’s 10 craziest tech ideas.

Google is well known for always chasing after moonshot projects like, self-driving cars to drone delivery. The tech giant always seems to have some sort of future like project in the works. So it could be fun to know what big ideas the company may chase after next.

As you know, it’s always important to take patents with a grain of salt. So often companies will file for a patent for some sort of device and then, it never sees the light of day. However, Google has some pretty wacky patents, some are cool, some are creepy and then there are some that’s really zany.

1.   There’s a patent for a smart and somewhat creepy teddy bear:
This bear comes with speakers, cameras and microphones so it, yes it, can listen to your conversations and watch your movements. This would be used to watch little kids when the parents aren’t near, but Google hasn’t exactly discussed the intention of the creepy stalker type teddy yet.

2.   Bionic eyes:
In 2014 Google filed a patent for a device that will fox your vision with the need of glasses or contact lenses every day. The person would have to go for an op where a doctor would surgically implant a “intra-ocular device” to the lens capsule for it to work through. Hopefully it gives x-ray vision too.

3.   Solar power contact lens:
Now this little contact lens would collect health data like glucose levels and internal body temperature. Surprisingly, this contact lens could even come with special capabilities like the ability to read info in bar codes. This was filed in 2012. This will be every shopaholic’s dream.

4.   The smartwatch that could test your blood without using needles:
Almost like the solar-powered contact lens, the smartwatch could provide any diabetic with a better way to monitor their sugar levels. When you’re ready to draw blood, the watch would send a surge of gas into a chamber that has a very small particle that would puncture the skin, draw blood and suck it into a barrel for testing. This was filed in 2014.

5.   The drone and robot delivery team:
Many people know about Google’s Project Wing, it’s a delivery service where a drone would lower a package/s to the ground. A new addition to this idea was added in 2014, now they’ve added a ground robot. The drone would lower the items to the robot on wheels that would take it to a safe holding location.

6.   The augmented reality glasses:
In 2011 Google file a patent for these awesome specs. The glasses would project a keyboard onto the wearer’s hand. A camera on the glasses would then pick up what keys are being pressed by the user. But Google stated it’s worthless and then mysteriously backed the augmented reality firm Magic Leap. So any other patents relating to AR could be fairly useless if it goes well on that front.

7.   Tattoos with a high-tech purpose:
It explains that a tattoo would embed a microphone and lie detector into your neck! Now, this tattoo will pair to your smartphone wirelessly, allowing you to talk without holding your phone at your mouth. The creepy part outlined in the patent, it can detect skin resistance in the user to tell if they’re lying.

8.   Smelly patent:
More on the funny side, a patent that will make sure you won’t bump into a friend is he’s/she’s smelly. Filed in 2012, is a fan that would attach itself to your body and spray nice smelling fragrances when it detects that you’re exerting yourself to cover up body odour. Better yet, it will make sure that no one you know is aware of your body odour by connecting to your contacts to see where they are and whether they smell bad themselves. It will then navigate you through routes to take should you be fairly smelly. So after gym, you’ll avoid any run-ins with your friends.

9.   Software based patent:
Not everything is hardware based, this particular patent turns your conversations into comic strips. The software would let you insert plain text or upload conversations and have them get transformed into an actual comic strip, these comic strips can then be shared on social media like Facebook.

10. High-tech hike:
Filed in 2011 with the purpose of giving you a high-tech experience every time you hike. It’s a walking stick covered in sensors and cameras that would scan the area and take pictures as you walk to create a visual simulation of the area.

And here most people were expecting a flying car or teleportation. If you could invent anything, what would it be? Or do you see any use for the above patents? Leave your comments, share your thoughts.
